Warning Signs Families Notice First
Pinpoint pupils are often the first thing families spot. The eyes look different, even in normal light. You might notice it across the dinner table before you notice anything else.
Then come the small moments that do not add up. Someone drifts off mid-sentence, chin dropping, then jerks back awake. We call this nodding off. Breathing can slow and turn shallow during these spells.
Other changes show up around the house. Pills or powders get tucked away. Bathroom doors stay locked longer. Money runs short with no clear reason, or things start going missing.
Between uses, the body reacts. You may see agitation, sweating, restlessness, or nausea. These are withdrawal signs, and they tend to ease once the person uses again. That back and forth is the part families remember most.
One odd afternoon does not tell you much. People have bad days. What matters is the pattern. Look at what repeats over weeks. Sleep at strange hours. Secrecy that keeps growing. A cycle of feeling sick, then suddenly fine.
Trust what you keep seeing. When the same signs stack up, they usually mean something real is happening. Writing down dates and details can help you see the shape of it clearly. We would rather you ask early than wait for certainty.
